An Agnostic in Kentucky

This is all about my life as a New Englander living in the Kentucky Bible Belt and surviving without my friends and the attitudes from back home.

This billboard went up by my house today. Lots of people here are incredibly angry that it exists. Lots of backlash against atheists for having the audacity to live in this city, or at all. Which just goes to show how much this billboard was needed. I’m happy it’s there.

this is amazing. the world needs more of these.

i know religion has been around for thousands of years in one form or another, but i still feel like atheism should be ground zero. the rule and not the exception.

Ngl, I find some atheist slogans to be kind of in your face and rude. But I really like this one! It’s straight to the point and (I think) very clear about the facts. I call myself a horrible Catholic because I don’t go to church, I ‘sin’ every day, I don’t follow any of the rules. I am still deciding whether or not if I believe in a God. But I certainly don’t judge those who fully believe in God or those who believe there is no God. Unless, of course, you are forcing your beliefs down my throat. That’s just not cool.

“kind of in your face and rude” is an understatement—but i know it’s sometimes the same on the flip side, too. and that is just the thing, trying to figure out how to balance out a level of respect for those with beliefs, and those without. unfortunately, it doesn’t matter what your system of beliefs are, because there will always, always be those few (or many, in BOTH cases) who ruin it for others/give others a bad name, etc. an atheist can shove their system of beliefs—for believing in no higher deity, etc. and so forth is a sort belief system all on its own, in a way—down someone’s throat just as much as, say, an evangelical christian could do the same.
tl;dr party poopers will always be party poopers, and we should at least attempt to respect others
